
Brainwaves NI held its 30th Annual General Meeting on 5 November 2024 at the Europa Hotel, Belfast. Committee members were delighted by the strong attendance.
Professor Karen McCloskey, Deputy Director of the Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research at Queen’s University Belfast, introduced PhD students Daniel Crummey, Tom McGirr and Malachy McIvor. Dr Leanne Bradley, a post-doctoral researcher at the centre, also attended.
Chairperson Colin McMillan welcomed members and reported on a successful fundraising year, the sponsored walk at Gosford Forest Park, engagement with MLAs at Stormont and the charity’s 30th anniversary weekend.
Treasurer Steve Harris presented the figures for the financial year ending 31 August 2024. The three students then explained their research projects and plans, while Dr Bradley outlined work to involve patients in research through workshops.
The presentations were followed by the election of the committee and other business.
