Katrina Steele Fundraiser

Katrina Steele was diagnosed with an inoperable mengioma in November 2018.  She underwent 6 weeks of radiotherapy which ended in April 2019, and will now be monitored closely with regular MRI scans.

Katrina’s husband, Ricky, was having a few friends round to their house on Saturday 18th May to watch the FA Cup Final so he decided he would make it an opportunity to raise money for BrainwavesNI charity.  He charged everyone £5 entry into his house, many of whom were donating more than that.  He had burgers on the go for everyone and then once the football was over he got the karaoke machine out.  He had a donation bucket sitting in the kitchen and after an afternoon and evening of great craic he managed to raise an amazing £800.  Thank you to Ricky & Katrina and members of the Castlereagh 82nd Football club.

Katrina works as a receptionist in the Ulster Independent Clinic.  There were several of her colleagues from all departments in the Clinic such as porters, nursing, catering, physio to name a few, all running the relay in the Belfast Marathon on Sunday 5th May.  One of her colleagues, Lorraine Coffey decided that they would all wear BrainwavesNI t-shirts and get sponsorship for doing the relay.  Ruth Jamison set up a just giving page also.  One of her colleagues has connections with Santander branch in Bangor and approached them asking would they match their amount.  Santander agreed and initially they were given a total of £2300 which they matched.  However after all the final calculations were made, Lorraine and team managed to raise £2356.50.  Therefore, an overall total from just giving, sponsorship forms and Santander equated to £4656.50.

Ricky & Katrina have a daughter Jessica who was in her final year of Queens with this news hit the family.  The university recommended Jessica take the rest of the year out and come back in September 2019 but she was determined to study on.  Om Monday 1st July Ricky and Katrina attended Jessicas graduation ceremony where she achieved a 2:1 BA hons degree in French & Spanish.  Massive well done to Jessica and both parents are extremely proud.  Katrina has requested that the money raised from their fundraising events is donated to research of brain tumours at CCRCB.
